Carbohydrates are made from monomers called monosaccharides. Some of
these monosaccharides include glucose (C

6), fructose (C

12O
6), and
deoxyribose (C
5H
10O
4). When two monosaccharides undergo dehydration
synthesis, water is produced, as two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom
are lost from the two monosaccharides' hydroxyl group.
